A timeline of "jilts, cracks, prostitutes, night-walkers, whores, she-friends, kind women & others of the linnen-lifting tribe"

This is a timeline of sex workers throughout history. It is by no means definitive, and there will be glaring omissions. But, this is a work in progress and will be continually updated to include as many stories and names as possible. This timeline is interactive, so if you see a hole where a name should be, you can email me directly at info@thewhoresofyore.com and either tell me who you would like included, or I will give you a password that will enable you to add to the timeline yourself. If you make a contribution to the timeline, you will also have the option to link to your own work around this subject, website, or anything else you would like to shout about.
History is not only written by the victors, but by those who can afford to write and leave records to document their experiences. The majority of sex workers here earned enough wealth and fame to have been written about. Sadly, for every Nell Gwynn, there are millions of sex workers who have left no record behind are not known to us; but, this is an attempt to bring together global experience of sex work and give the people involved names, identities and  a history.

If you would like to contribute to the timeline, once I have given you the password, follow this link
